Qualifications and Train the Trainer

"No relationship is safe but when you have not been equipped with effective social opportunities or education to teach you then this can leave someone in a very vulnerable position. Giving someone freedom to make safer choices is invaluable for their personal growth and allows them to achieve increased self esteem which can then impact their holistic well-being. Where opportunities have been missed, we have an obligation to do our utmost to fulfil these in the best way we can."

Train the Trainer is a project within AreYou for Specialist RSE. This will not only enable you to run sessions for the people you support but can also allow you to teach within your organisation (conditions apply), to other staff members, how to have effective conversations and provide support to those who may have difficulty staying safer with regards to relationships and sexual behaviours.

The creation of this customised qualification was funded by the National Lottery Community Fund, and without their support, we would not be able to offer this programme to you.

To become a Tutor and deliver staff training, we require;

  • Makaton safeguarding training (this can be purchased separately from us if required).

To be awarded this customised qualification, learners are required to achieve a minimum of 180 qualification time successfully and to complete the pre course stages.

The pre course stages are to be completed in your own time online (each is designed to take you approx 2 hours to explore all the resources and material). After this, you will attend 4 days (4.5 days for tutors) and complete the in-person Customised Qualification.

As you go through, the pre-course stages increase in content toward more severe risk-taking items/behaviours. In the earlier stages, there is content that you are more likely to deliver often. Within each, you will find relevant resources, information, links to laws/legislation, and a video of some materials you may deliver to show examples of the content. You will gain full access to our resources when you attend the face-to-face week.

If you are on the standard facilitator course, this licence will give you access to all the resources required to deliver to small groups or 1:1 within your workplace. These are not for commercial use and should not be shared in the public domain.

If you are a tutor and have purchased the additional bolt-on, you will also gain access to our Sexual Knowledge Assessment to assess what areas someone may need additional help with. You will also gain access to our staff training pack, which will enable you to train other carers or teachers to support individuals and have difficult conversations.

This does not enable you to deliver a train-the-trainer course.

All our resources are updated and added to regularly. You will be expected to attend peer support networking groups and our yearly update to continue to access the materials.
