Loss Grief and Bereavement in Learning Disabilities

Introduction

This course provides an in-depth overview of supporting individuals with LD who are experiencing loss or grief. By specifically focusing on the LD population, participants will the skills and knowledge needed to effectively support and communicate with those in bereavement to help them through the stages of grief.

Learning Outcomes

  • To understand how loss and grief is presented and interpreted by individuals living with LD.
  • To improve verbal and non-verbal communication with supported individuals who are experiencing loss or grief.
  • To identify the social, physical and mental impact of grief in individuals living with LD.
  • To identify available services and support for individuals living with LD who are experiencing loss or grief.
  • To recognise the thoughts, feelings and behaviour that might present in supported individuals experiencing loss and grief.
  • To safely and effectively guide supported individuals through the different stages of the grieving process.
