Learning Disability and Autism Awareness

Introduction
As of 1st July, 2022, it is mandatory for anybody registered with CQC who supports individuals with Learning Disability and/or Autism to have training relevant to their role. To ensure that all our trainees meet this requirement, this course provides an extensive overview of Learning Disability and Autism, including how they present themselves, how effective care can be offered to individuals living with them, and what support strategies are available in compliance with the capabilities framework.
Learning Outcomes
- To explore the history, aetiology and classifications of LD and Autism.
- To understand the Core Capabilities Framework and how it needs to be implemented within an individual’s care plan and environment.
- To recognise the behaviours that present themselves with LD and Autism, and how they may impact the life of an individual living with LD and/or Autism.
- To provide effective care planning, support strategies and risk assessments for individuals living with LD and/or Autism.
- To gain insight into the social, physical and mental impacts of living with LD and Autism.
- To increase awareness of how an individual with LD and/or Autism can be supported to provide them with the best possible quality-of-life.
