Introduction
This course explores the signs, symptoms, diagnoses and management of mental health conditions in individuals living with Learning Disability, and the relationship between Learning Disability and Mental Health. By specifically focusing on the Learning Disability population, participants will the skills and knowledge needed to effectively support the mental health needs of those within their care.
Learning Outcomes
- To be able to distinguish between “mental health”, “mental illness” and “mental condition”.
- To recognise the signs and symptoms that present themselves when an individual’s mental health might require assessment or treatment.
- To explore the diagnostic pathway that is used to diagnose mental health conditions and disorders.
- To understand the relationship between mental health and LD.
- To improve verbal and non-verbal communication with individuals living with LD who are experiencing mental health issues.
- To be able to signpost to relevant mental health services for individuals living with LD.
