Introduction

Available as either Level 1 or Level 2, our Moving People Safely course provides the necessary knowledge and skills needed to safely and effectively move supported individuals around their environment, whilst minimising risk of injury to both themselves and the staff responsible for performing manual handling procedures.

Level 1 covers manual handling legislation, risks and dangers of manual handling, and organisational policies and assessments governing manual handling in the participant’s workplace. Level 2 enhances this with practical demonstrations and competency assessments.

Learning Outcomes

  • To learn about the legislation, policies and procedures governing manual handling in the workplace.
  • To explore the different manual handling equipment that can be used and what checks must be done to ensure that it is compliant with safety regulations.
  • To identify risks and dangers associated with manual handling and the impact they can have on the health and safety of staff and supported individuals.
  • To be able to conduct effective manual handling risk assessments.
  • To learn about correct manual handling techniques and when to apply them.
  • To recognise existing manual handling policies, procedures and assessments in the participant’s current workplace.
  • To understand the anatomy and mechanics of the spine, and recognise the signs and symptoms that indicate spinal injury.

  • To assess the current manual handling policies and procedures in the participant’s current workplace and identify areas for improvement.
  • To demonstrate safe and effective manual handling techniques.
