Introduction
Paediatric First Aid (Theory) is the perfect induction to first aid for paediatric casualties. By exploring the theory behind the practical procedures, you will develop a better understanding of how to support a paediatric casualty and gain awareness towards recognising common health issues and medical emergencies.
Please note that in order to be eligible for this course, you need to first complete Paediatric First Aid (Practical). Certification will be awarded upon completion of both practical and theoretical courses.
Learning Outcomes
- Understand what is meant by a “paediatric” casualty and the legal rights that protect them.
- Recognise different types of seizures and how to appropriately respond to them.
- Understand the health implications of bites and stings and what action to take if they are sustained by a paediatric casualty.
- Identify different types of poisoning and how to react in a way that protects both you and the casualty.
- Learn the distinction between hyperthermia and hypothermia, the effects that they may have on the casualty’s health, and how to manage them with first aid.
- Explore chronic conditions such as asthma and diabetes, their health impacts, and how to manage any relevant medical emergencies.
