Introduction
Ligatures are a common means of attempting suicide and self-harm due to their basic set-up using common household items and architecture. With our Anti-Ligature Training course, participants can better equip themselves with the skills and knowledge needed to minimise risk of ligatures in the care or support setting and respond to incidents involving ligatures.
Learning Outcomes
- To understand the definition and mechanics of ligatures.
- To better recognise the hazards and dangers that can increase risk of ligature usage, and record these findings in effective, legally defensible risk assessments.
- To identify the signs of ligature usage.
- To understand the different methods of hanging and their effects on the body.
- To recognise the different things that can be used as ligatures and ligature anchor points.
- To effectively respond to a ligature incident, keep the casualty safe and preserve the scene.
- To understand the nature and importance of debriefing following a ligature incident.
- To effectively demonstrate the first aid procedures that are performed on a casualty who has used a ligature.
- To identify anti-ligature tools and effectively demonstrate their use on mock ligatures.
